Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average length of stay at Cassie's?

We ask women to stay for at least three months. Research and our own years of experience suggest that three months is the minimum amount of time required to establish a firm foothold in sobriety, and transition successfully. However, many of our residents, depending on their individual histories, life circumstances, and comfort levels, may choose to stay for much longer.

What are the requirements while I stay at Cassie's?

Cassie's residents are required to attend daily meetings for the first 90 days-- either those offered within the house, in-person in the community, or via Zoom. Other requirements include obtaining a Temporary Sponsor within the first two weeks, and initiating an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). There are several IOP's nearby, and the Director can facilitate referrals and enrollment.  These requirements are designed to ensure that residents are actively continuing their recovery while at the house.

Do you hold recovery meetings at the house?

Yes! We have a variety of meetings at the house, and adjust our offerings to suit the preferences of current residents. In-person meeting formats include: AA, NA, Smart Recovery, Refuge Recovery, mindfulness meditations, and community Zoom meetings.

Can I bring my car?

You are welcome to bring your car. For the first ten days of your stay at Cassie's, we require all of your outings to be chauffeured by one of our trusted drivers. This is for your safety, and to help avoid new temptations during a difficult time.

Can I bring my cell phone and laptop?

Cassie's Cottage imposes no restrictions on laptop or cell phone usage, except that they may not be used during groups.

Can I bring my dog?

To the best of our knowledge, Cassie's is the only dog-friendly sober house in Connecticut. Dogs are approved on a case-by-case basis, subject to certain behavior and breed restrictions, and the approval of other residents. We know your furry friends play an important role in your health and well-being, and tend to boost everyone's morale.

Can I bring my own food?

Every resident has her own dedicated pantry, refrigerator, and freezer space. The house is also amply stocked with staples, fresh fruits and vegetables, and beverages, which you are free to use to make your meals. Additionally, home-cooked nutritious, well-balanced dinners are offered regularly.
